All Aboard Junction Train Store To Close :(

One of the great things about living in a small town like Gilroy is the abundance of small specialty stores like All Aboard Junction at the corner of Monterey and Leavesley/Welburn. Unfortunately, small towns get hit pretty hard when the economy starts to struggle and specialty stores, in general, lose business first as people trim expenses.  Apparently this time around was one time too many for All Aboard Junction, Gilroy’s own model train store. They’re scheduled to close at the end of the year.

Of course, they’re having a clearance sale, so if you’re interested in rolling stock & accessories they’re currently 20% off. Additionally, they’re running extended hours through the holiday season: Mon-Fri 1:30 to 6:30, Saturday 9:30 to 4:30.   Unfortunately, I visited before the holiday hours began so they were closed, but I did manage to grab some pictures through the window to give y’all some idea of what’s in the cute little shop-

I’m not sure if they’ll actually be open this Saturday, November 22nd, because they should be at the Train Show at San Martin Country Park, of which they’re a sponsor.  We’re hoping to see them there but I still want to stop by the store before it closes as well.

  2. I was in the store the other weekend and they said they are not closing. Are they closing or not?

  3. Welcome, Joe!

Depending on when that “other weekend” was I guess they’d know better than I if they’re closing or remaining open. I was there (to take the photos in the post) on Thursday 11/13. At that time they had this sign in their window which certainly implies the store is closing.

I first heard about the closure through the grapevine and then saw their ad in the November 2008 issue of Out & About Magazine (pg 66) which reads: “All Aboard Junction will be closing its doors on December 31, 2008. The Store will remain open on a part-time basis thru the Holiday Season (Friday evenings & Saturdays)“.

Obviously, the holiday hours changed, so I suppose it’s possible they’ve decided to stay open as well. Z and I are planning on attending the Train Show tomorrow, so we can find out then. I’ll be sure to post back by Monday afternoon and update y’all on what we learn.
